Films submitted can be from any genre about any topic in any filming style. We strongly encourage filmmakers to exercise their artistic freedom.

Short Documentary – A nonfiction story told in less than 40 minutes, including credits. This category was created to maximize the quantity of voices heard about real-life events.

Feature Documentary – A nonfiction film that is longer than 40 minutes and less than 120 minutes.

Short Fiction – A fictional story conveyed in 40 minutes or less, including credits. This can be experimental, comedy, animated, sci-fi, anything.

Feature Fiction – A fiction piece that is longer than 40 minutes and less than 120 minutes.

International – A film directed, written, produced, or created by someone not from the United States. Can also be filmed in a country other than the United States.
